everis selects startups for the semifinals of the NTT DATA Open Innovation Contest

everis will coordinate five of the fifteen semifinals for the seventh edition of the Open Innovation Contest 7.0. This start-up competition, which aims to attract new ideas that encourage business collaboration, is organized by NTT DATA. The competition, which received over 400 proposals from all over the world for the first time last year, is open to any start-up company operating in sectors such as fintech, insurtech, regtech, IoT, digital marketing, blockchain, health technologies, API, personal data, Artificial Intelligence, drones, or quantum computing, among others. The deadline for submitting proposals is October 10th.

everis will be in charge of selecting projects from Brazil, Chile, Portugal, as well as Spain, where it will hold two semifinals (one in Madrid and the other in Barcelona) during the month of February. Both cities will host the competition once again, after Social Coin, the semifinalist project selected by everis in the last edition in Barcelona, was awarded as the winner of the global competition in the Grand Finale in Tokyo.

The rest of the semifinals will be held in Australia, Canada, China, the United States, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Singapore, from December of 2017 to February of 2018, where the Open Innovation Contest 7.0 finalists will emerge. In March of 2018, the winning startup of the Grand Finale in Tokyo will receive three months of consulting services from NTT DATA, to support the development of their proposed activity in the Japanese market.

Juan José Terreros, everis partner, has noted: “at everis and the rest of the NTT DATA group we are well aware of how powerful is to join forces with startups so both parts can leverage on each other’s strengths. The Open Innovation Contest not only aims to identify interesting projects but also to promote their growth and sustainability in the long run, so we can together address the challenges society is facing”.

Support to the business ideas

The proposal of a deep learning-based citizen engagement platform that helps citizens solve civic problems through a blockchain system, allowed Social Coin, a Barcelona-based startup, to obtain first place in the last global edition of the NTT DATA competition.

After the three-month consulting period has passed, the company and its proposal will still continue to be in a process of intensive development with NTT DATA, in order to assess and boost the feasibility of its business proposals.
